In South Australia, all children start school on the same first day, allowing every child to complete four terms of Reception before progressing to the rest of their primary education. This approach provides a stable learning environment with fewer mid-year class changes.
If your child turns 5 before 1 May, they can start primary school in Reception at the beginning of that year. From 2024, there will also be a mid-year Reception intake:
Children who start school in the mid-year intake will complete six terms of Reception.
Students transferring from overseas may be eligible for the Intensive English Language Program (IELP) at Clovelly Park Primary. To qualify, students must enrol within 12 months of arriving in Australia, or within 18 months if they are starting in Reception or Year 1. IELP enrolment is continuous, so students can start as soon as they turn 5.
